A Thought for Today 30-04-2012

Apocalypse 1:17-18

I saw the Son of Man, and he said to me, ‘Have no fear! I am the First and the Last. I was dead and now I am to live for ever and ever, and I hold the keys of death and of the underworld.’

The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears, for there's no risk of accident for someone who's dead.

A Thought for Today 27-04-2012

Acts 2:32,36

God raised this man Jesus to life, and all of us are witnesses to that. For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.

A man is not primarily a witness against something. That is only incidental to the fact that he is a witness for something.

1 Corinthians 12:13

In the one Spirit we were all baptised, Jews as well as Greeks, slaves as well as citizens, and one Spirit was given to us all to drink.

We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now.

2 Timothy 2:8,11

Remember the Good News that I carry, ’Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David’. Here is a saying that you can rely on: ‘If we have died with him, then we shall live with him.’

If the Resurrection is resurrection from the dead, all hope and freedom are in spite of death.

A Thought for Today on Marriage

Matt 19:1-6

When Jesus had finished saying these things, he left Galilee and went into the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan. Large crowds followed him, and he healed them there. Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason? Haven't you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female', and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

Almost no one is foolish enough to imagine that he automatically deserves great success in any field of activity; yet almost everyone believes that he automatically deserves success in marriage.

1 Thessalonians 5:23

May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may you all be kept safe and blameless, spirit, soul and body, for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lower your expectations of earth. This isn't heaven, so don't expect it to be.

A Thought for Today 18-04-2012

1 John 5:5-6

Who can overcome the world? Only the man who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus Christ came by water and blood: not with water only, but with water and blood.

I have been all things unholy. If God can work through me, he can work through anyone.

A Thought for Today 17-04-2012

1 Peter 3:21-22

Now you are saved by baptism. This is not the washing off of physical dirt but a pledge made to God from a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has entered heaven and is at God’s right hand.

An Adult faith does not follow the waves of fashion and the latest novelties.

A Thought for Today 16-04-2012

Colossians 2:9,12

In Christ lives the fullness of divinity, and in him you too find your own fulfilment. You have been buried with him, when you were baptised; and by baptism, too, you have been raised up with him through your belief in the power of God who raised him from the dead.

God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.

A Thought for Today 06-04-2012

Isaiah 53:4-5

And yet ours were the sufferings he bore, ours the sorrows he carried. But we, we thought of him as someone punished, struck by God, and brought low. Yet he was pierced through for our faults, crushed for our sins. On him lies a punishment that brings us peace, and through his wounds we are healed.

At the cross God wrapped his heart in flesh and blood and let it be nailed to the cross for our redemption.

Hebrews 2:9-10

We have seen Jesus crowned with glory and splendour because he submitted to death; by God’s grace he had to experience death for all mankind. As it was his purpose to bring a great many of his sons into glory, it was appropriate that God, for whom everything exists and through whom everything exists, should make perfect, through suffering, the leader who would take them to their salvation.

Obedience is an act of faith; disobedience is the result of unbelief.

Romans 15:3

Christ did not think of himself. The words of scripture apply to him: the insults of those who insult you fall on me.

The real problem is not why some pious, humble, believing people suffer, but why some do not.

A Thought for Today 03-04-2012

1 Corinthians 1:22-24

The Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom, but we are preaching a crucified Christ; to the Jews an obstacle that they cannot get over, to the pagans madness, but to those who have been called, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is the power and the wisdom of God.

Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.
(C. S. Lewis)

Jeremiah 18:20

Remember how I stood in your presence to plead on their behalf, to turn your wrath away from them.

Many of those who once were so passionately in love with Christ now run about pursuing their own interests. They're burdened down with stress and problems, chasing after riches and the things of this world.
(David Wilkerson)
