Isaiah 55:10-11

Thus says the Lord: ‘As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, making it yield and giving growth to provide seed for the sower and bread for the eating, so the word that goes from my mouth does not return to me empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to do.’

God never made a promise that was too good to be true.

Wisdom 15:1,3

You, our God, are kind, loyal and slow to anger, and you govern all things with mercy. To acknowledge you is indeed the perfect virtue, to know your power is the root of immortality.

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.
(Gilbert K. Chesterton)

A Thought for Today 27-01-2012

Mark 4:26-29

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.All by itself the soil produces corn- first the stalk, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

Fable is more historical than fact, because fact tells us about one man and fable tells us about a million men.
(Gilbert K. Chesterton)

Mark 4:23-24

"If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear. Consider carefully what you hear", he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you- and even more."

A day wasted on others is not wasted on one's self.
(Charles Dickens)

1 Timothy 1:16

If mercy has been shown to me, it is because Jesus Christ meant to make me the greatest evidence of his inexhaustible patience for all the other people who would later have to trust in him to come to eternal life.

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.

Proverbs 22:22-23

Because a man is poor, do not therefore cheat him, nor, at the city gate, oppress anybody in affliction; for the Lord takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.

Science in the modern world has many uses; its chief use, however, is to provide long words to cover the errors of the rich.

Colossians 1:21-22

Not long ago, you were foreigners and enemies, in the way that you used to think and the evil things that you did; but now he has reconciled you, by his death and in that mortal body. Now you are able to appear before him holy, pure and blameless.

The greatest enemy to human souls is the self-righteous spirit which makes men look to themselves for salvation.

Deuteronomy 1:31

The Lord carried you, as a man carries his child, all along the road you travelled.
As I look back over fifty years of ministry, I recall innumerable tests, trials and times of crushing pain. But through it all, the Lord has proven faithful, loving, and totally true to all his promises.
(David Wilkerson)

Galatians 5:13-14

My brothers, you were called, as you know, to liberty; but be careful, or this liberty will provide an opening for self-indulgence. Serve one another, rather, in works of love, since the whole of the Law is summarised in a single command: Love your neighbour as yourself.

I frankly don't care if you agree with my stand on abortion. I take that stand because no other stand is consistent with decent principles, and no other standard is consistent with the will of God.

Mark 3:4-5

Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent. He looked round at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

Mark 2:27-28

Then he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.

Do not let Sunday be taken from you If your soul has no Sunday, it becomes an orphan.

Jeremiah 15:16

When your words came, I devoured them: your word was my delight and the joy of my heart; for I was called by your name, Lord, God of hosts.

The Scriptures were written, not to make us astronomers, but to make us saints.

Colossians 3:12-13

You are God’s chosen race, his saints; he loves you, and you should be clothed in sincere compassion, in kindness and humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with one another; forgive each other as soon as a quarrel begins. The Lord has forgiven you; now you must do the same.

A church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints.

Amos 4:13

He it was who formed the mountains, created the wind, reveals his mind to man, makes both dawn and dark, and walks on the top of the heights of the world; the Lord, the God of Hosts, is his name.
Love is anterior to life, posterior to death, initial of creation, and the exponent of breath.

James 4:7-8,10

Give in to God: resist the devil, and he will run away from you. The nearer you go to God, the nearer he will come to you. Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will lift you up.

Be ever engaged, so that whenever the devil calls he may find you occupied.

Job 5:17-18

Happy indeed the man whom God corrects! So do not refuse this lesson from the Omnipotent: for he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.

A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment.

1 Peter 1:17,18,19

You must be scrupulously careful as long as you are living away from your home. Remember, the ransom that was paid to free you was not paid in anything corruptible, neither in silver nor gold, but in the precious blood of a lamb without spot or stain, namely Christ.

When a thing's done, it's done, and if it's not done right, do it differently next time.

Zechariah 2:15

Many nations will join the Lord, on that day; they will become his people. I shall remain among you, and you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent me to you.

There are people and nations, Mother, that I would like to say to you by name. I entrust them to you in silence, I entrust them to you in the way that you know best.

Ezekiel 34:11-12

I am going to look after my flock myself and keep all of it in view. As a shepherd keeps all his flock in view when he stands up in the middle of his scattered sheep, so shall I keep my sheep in view. I shall rescue them from wherever they have been scattered.

It is the duty of a good shepherd to shear his sheep, not to skin them.

Romans 8:3-4

God dealt with sin by sending his own Son in a body as physical as any sinful body, and in that body God condemned sin. He did this in order that the Law’s just demands might be satisfied in us, who behave not as our unspiritual nature but as the spirit dictates.

It is my opinion that human history can make no sense unless evil doings are recognized for what they are, and that they are bearable only if somehow they may be redeemed.

Isaiah 62:11-12

Say to the daughter of Zion: Look, your saviour comes, the prize of his victory with him, his trophies before him. They shall be called ‘The Holy People’, ‘The Lord’s Redeemed.’

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
(Audrey Hepburn)
